- Riders
- The minimum age of participation is 16 years old.
- Riders must be in good health and well trained.
- Medical and indemnity
- All riders must complete an indemnity form.
- Any medical officer may withdraw a rider that is seen as unfit to continue.
- Bicycles
- Only mountain bikes in good working order will be allowed to start the race.
- Riders must start and finish the event on one bike.
- All bikes must have an official number board fitted to the front of the bike.
- Maintenance of the bikes is the responsibility of each rider.
- Helmets and Clothing
- A rider not wearing a helmet at any stage of the race will be disqualified.
- A shirt must be worn at all times.
- Eye protection is strongly recommended.
- Fully enclosed footwear must also be worn.
- Separation Time Penalties
- Riders must ride with his or her partner at all times.
- Riders who are separated at any stage by more that 2 minutes will receive a 30 second time penalty.
- This separation time penalty can be enforced at anytime in the race.
- Three separation time penalties will result in disqualification.
- Race Numbers
- Both riders need to display race numbers at all times.
- Race numbers must not be altered in any way. This includes cutting, adding stickers and removing existing stickers or trimming.
- Obligatory Equipment
It is strongly recommended that the following is carried to deal with emergencies.
- First aid kit
- Foil survival blanket.
- Three first aid dressings. (sizes 2,3 and 4)
- Five first aid plasters.
- Sun-block
- Multi-tool or bike repair tools.
- Mobile phone - one per team is compulsory.
- The Start and Finish
- Different start zones will be allocated on day 2 and 3.
- The start zones will close 15 min before the start stage.
- Any riders that are not in their start zone 15 min before the start will be required to start in the last start zone.
- The finish will stay open until 14h00 0n day 2 and 3.
- Team times
- The team time is determined by the time at which the second team member passes the stage finish line.
- On day 2 and 3 timing will start at 7am each morning. On day one timing will start with the individual teams.
- The start line will stay open for 15 minutes after the gun.
- Any riders who start later will not appear in the stage results.
- Checkpoints
- Each stage will have checkpoints, where Separation time penalties will be enforced.
- Teams that do not pass the checkpoints will be disqualified.
- The location of checkpoints will not be published.
- The location of water points will be published.
- Traffic
- The CradleQuest will not have exclusive use of any of the roads during the race.
- Regular traffic regulations must be observed at all times.
- There will be points-men to assist at tar road crossing but all riders are to take note that they are responsible for their own safety at these crossings.
- Registration and briefing
- Registration Thursday 6 November as per the race entry times.
- Briefing 6 November at 18h00
- Hydration and Nutrition
- Riders are ultimately responsible for there own hydration and nutrition. They must carry enough with them for the entire duration.
- Seconding and Support
- Competitors may receive assistance from a fellow competitor.
- Outside seconding, assistance or feeding is permitted at water points only.
- No teams may tow up a hill.
- Bikes repairs may be performed on the route but without obstructing other riders.
- Riders may draft behind other competitors is allowed. No outside drafting is allowed.
- Seconding vehicles are not permitted to follow the race. Many sections are closed to traffic altogether. Supporters may use tar roads to reach specified vantage points.
- Withdrawls
- If teams cannot continue the race, for whatever reason, they must immediately inform the race office. This can be done at the start, finish or water point.
- Should a rider or team not officially withdraw by informing the race office, within a reasonable time and a search and rescue operation is initiated, the cost of the search operation will be transferred to the rider or team.
- No single riders will be allowed.
- The race office will assist in forming new teams. The formation of new teams is each riders responsibility.
- Newly formed teams will not get a team ranking but but individual riders wil qualify as race finishers.
- Environmental
- Any littering will result in disqualification.
- Protest
- Any protests must be submitted to the race office within 15minutes of the team finishing.
- Disqualification
Teams will be disqualified at the discretion of the race office for any of the following:
- Riding without a helmet.
- Littering
- Damage to the environment
- Bad sportsmanship
- Abuse of race officials
- General traffic violations
- No number board
- Taking shortcuts
- General
- Riders must complete the entire distance.
- No shortcuts may be taken.
- If a rider exits the course then he or she must start again from the exit point.
- No glass containers are permitted.
